“What is the best time of day for a photo shoot in Florence?”
The best time of day for a photo shoot in Florence really depends on the season.
The city center is almost always very crowded, with one notable exception: during the summer months, early morning between about 6:00 and 7:00 AM. That’s the window we usually use for shooting downtown, before the city fully wakes up. After that, we typically move the session to a panoramic viewpoint, where, between 7:00 and 8:00 AM, it’s still relatively quiet and much easier to work.
For evening sessions in Florence, we generally recommend starting at a panoramic location. These spots offer a variety of backgrounds and also give us more flexibility to find less crowded areas, ensuring a more relaxed and enjoyable experience throughout the shoot.
In that case, we always schedule the session close to sunset to take full advantage of the best natural light.

If you're overseas, definitely via email, through our contact form. About 90% of our clients come from all over the globe, which means big time zone differences. So that's the easiest way, at least at first. On the other hand, when we need to plan very accurately a session, like a Marriage Proposal, we can arrange an online video call.
How far in advance should I book my shoot?
The sooner, the better. Please consider that it's just the two of us taking photos, and we're working on a first-come-first-serve basis. On the other hand, it also depends a lot on the kind of service. For Family and couples photo sessions a few weeks in advance can be enough. Whereas for Wedding and Elopements, especially in summer, 6/8 months is more recommended. That being said, we strive to accommodate last-minute requests when possible.

Can we get the RAW files?
In short: no. But let us ask you this question: why are you asking for RAW files? This is a broad topic, and overall, we largely agree with Caleb Kerr’s point of view. However, feel free to contact us and share your concerns about this - we’ll be happy to discuss them with you in more detail.In the meantime, can you provide at least a few sneak peek photos?
Of course, we can! If you need a few photos for your thank you cards, or just to share them with your friends, we're happy to send them within a couple of days - or anyway, as soon as possible.
How long does it take to get our photos?
A few weeks, or up to 3 months. That depends on the kind of sessions and the season, according to the number of photos we need to edit. Please consider that we take care of the whole MeDisProject workflow, and this process takes a lot of time. We appreciate your patience with that.
How do we get our photos?
You’ll have your private, password-protected online gallery which you can share with your family and friends around the world. Typically, this gallery will be online for at least one year, and you can enter also from our Clients' area.

“Do we need a car for countryside photos?”
Although we don’t offer transportation services ourselves, for a countryside session outside Florence, our clients usually rent a car. Driving out of the city is generally much more relaxing, and it also gives you the freedom to explore more easily the many beautiful locations that Tuscany has to offer.
If you prefer not to drive yourselves, we will be happy to recommend one of our trusted private drivers.

Whenever the session is more than 10 miles/15 km away from Florence, we generally charge a small travel fee, depending on the distance. Also, any taxi rides or any other previously agreed transfers are not included in our quote.

What’s the difference between Family and Family Reunion photo sessions?
Getting high-quality photos means having enough time for your shoot. To do so, the session length depends on the number of participants. We generally consider a Family session a single-family group of 5 people. Whereas a Family Reunion is usually a chance for far-flung relatives to reconnect, which means larger groups. It might be just a family of four traveling with two grandparents or even a big gathering with 20-30 people. Please let us know in our contact form how many people will take part in your session, and we'll be happy to provide more information according to your needs.

“I want to organize a photoshoot for my marriage proposal at Boboli Gardens, Villa Bardini, or Piazzale Michelangelo. Is it possible?”
Piazzale Michelangelo has been, for many years now, the most popular sunset spot in Florence. It is often so crowded that it can be difficult even to walk through, let alone have a calm and private moment for photos.
As for the Boboli Gardens or Villa Bardini, both are museum areas, just like the Uffizi or the Accademia Gallery. For this reason, a private professional photoshoot in these locations is generally not permitted unless a special permit is obtained from the Ministry of Culture. The images you may have seen online were either taken with such permissions or, in some cases, unfortunately, in violation of the rules, with all the risks that this involves.
The reality is that many of the most famous public viewpoints in Florence are now widely known, which makes it very difficult to guarantee privacy, intimacy, and a relaxed experience during a marriage proposal.
The good news, however, is that there are still hidden or semi-hidden spots - both in the city and in the Tuscan surroundings - that can offer a much more private, natural, and meaningful atmosphere. We would be very happy to suggest and guide you toward the best options based on your timing, style, and expectations.

Helping you choose the right locations is actually one of our key strengths, and in a way, it’s part of our unique approach. We often think that we’re almost as much travel advisors as we are photographers.
This is especially true for marriage proposals, where every situation is different and requires careful planning. Over time, we’ve become highly specialized in understanding each couple’s needs, timing, light conditions, privacy levels, and overall atmosphere - and then translating all of that into the right location choices.
So yes, we don’t just show up and take photos: we actively help you design the experience in a way that fits you perfectly and makes everything feel effortless on your side.
We are a group of more than 5–6 people, and I think your Family Reunion service is perfect for us! Can we do our photo session in Florence?
Due to the crowds and the length of the session, we always recommend avoiding Florence for larger groups. This type of service takes time: we usually photograph individual sub-family groups as well as everyone together, and when the session takes place in a villa, those who are not being photographed can relax, rest, or simply enjoy their time.
In some cases, guests even go for a swim in the pool or enjoy a drink during the session. In a city environment, however, this would mean a lot of waiting around and boredom, and we prefer that everyone enjoys a pleasant, shared experience throughout the shoot.
Should we choose Florence or the Tuscan countryside?
Even though Florence certainly still holds a great charm, it’s worth considering that the city has become increasingly crowded and also very hot in recent years, especially during the summer months.
Many years ago, when we first started working with couples and family photo sessions, we could easily spend up to three hours in the historic center of Florence without any particular issues. Today, however, in the summer, we basically only go there at sunrise, or we prefer to suggest alternative locations.
These alternatives can still work very well, but they are often better suited for people who have already spent some time living here or for those who are not necessarily focused on shooting in the most iconic spots, which is absolutely fine as well, in fact, even great!
For this reason, especially if you have already been to Florence before, we often recommend exploring the Tuscan countryside. The countryside of Tuscany offers many different settings, more peaceful environments, and often much better light for this kind of experience.

We want photos in Florence AND the countryside, is that possible?
Sure, we can customize the session accordingly. In this case, we generally skip the city center, but we can still take wonderful photos from our favorite panoramic spots. We also published a blog post on this topic.
We’re planning to rent a Villa in Tuscany. Would you travel to our place, or shall we need to come to Florence?
You don't need to travel to Florence, we're happy to come to your place! Since the city center gets more and more crowded at any time of the year, if you're a large group of people, like a family reunion, we'd highly recommend organizing the session just in and around your villa. You may find many examples of this service on our Family page.
Do you work only in Tuscany?
Yes, we do mainly work in Tuscany and neighboring regions. Years ago, we used to travel all over Italy, and sometimes abroad - Dovilė is from Lithuania, so we visit the Baltics at least once every year. On the other hand, as you can see in our story, we now have two children too. For this reason, to stay close to our home in Florence, at the moment we prefer to remain within Tuscany. Nevertheless, feel free to tell us your story and your ideas, we're open to new experiences!

Do you outsource photo retouching?
No — all of our photo editing and retouching is done in-house by Dovilė & Matteo personally. We believe that preserving the emotion, authenticity, and timeless quality of your images requires a careful, hands-on approach. For this reason, we do not accept external retouching offers.
Do you use AI in your culling or editing process?
As of February 2026, we use the basic AI features included in Adobe Lightroom and occasionally in Photoshop to assist with our editing. However, when it comes to culling, we still prefer to select our photos manually, one by one. We have tested some of the most popular AI culling programs, but we believe that carefully choosing each image is an essential part of our creative process. While this approach is time-consuming, it allows us to maintain full artistic control and ensure that every selected photo truly represents our vision.Are you professional full-time photographers?

What happens if it rains? What is your rescheduling policy?
Normally, bad weather is not a problem for our photo session, especially in summer. However, shooting in the rain can be very exciting, even for families. You may find some examples in our galleries, here, here, and here. It can also be a unique chance to take great photos. That being said, if the weather is so terrible and makes your shoot impossible, we can try to re-schedule, or we can offer a refund - if you already paid a retainer.
Do you shoot mini-sessions?
No, we don't, for many reasons. Photos are just a part - the outcome - of our service. In between, there's a unique experience, that we'd love you to enjoy to get wonderful photos to be cherished for years to come. Think about it: when you're on vacation you don't usually like rushing or being rushed. Also, rushed sessions tend to look, well...rushed!
Do you accept multiple clients on the same day?
No, we don't. We like to take our time with each client, and so we only book one session a day. As you can see, we're just a husband and wife running a family company, and we are personally in charge of every step of our workflow, from the inquiry to the delivery.
