A Large Family Photoshoot
Celebrating a 50th Wedding Anniversary (and a Birthday) in Italy
After lots of planning, your extended family is gathering in Tuscany for your parents’ wedding anniversary. So, you decided to do something unique, and you’re looking for a family photographer in Florence? Then, this post is about you. Hopefully, we will provide some insight and useful information for you. We already wrote about photoshoot for a Wedding anniversary with your family, and about a more Romantic Wedding anniversary session. This time instead, we’ll see this kind of celebration within a family reunion.
Renting a Villa
Tuscany is a trendy place for family reunions. Especially in the sunny season, hundreds of families have huge gatherings here in this fascinating Italian region. Hence, the first step is renting a villa in the countryside, so you can relax and enjoy your time together. Especially if you’re a large group, there are several benefits to choosing this type of accommodation. Lauren and Holly, for instance, along with their husbands and children, rented Villa Ripanera for their stay in Tuscany. They are two sisters, and they were taking this trip to celebrate their mom’s 70th birthday and their parent’s 50th wedding anniversary.
Set in the most typical Tuscan landscape, only about 10 miles away from Florence, this magnificent Villa dates back to the XVI century and is part of the Ripanera winemaking estate. Surrounded by a splendid garden, the property offers stunning views on the Chianti hills, dotted with vineyards and olive groves. With this great blend of indoor and outdoor locations, this manor provides a perfect setting to enjoy an unforgettable photoshoot.
How do you manage this photoshoot?
If you’re coming from a large family, you probably know that taking photos of the whole gang is never a simple task. On the other hand, capturing families is what we do, and during the last decade, we have gained a lot of experience in Family photography. We generally start with some posed portraits, involving everyone. Kids might get tired or bored fast, and their attention spans are short. For this reason, we like to get the whole family together to guarantee at least a few different hang-on-your-wall-worthy photos.
Then besides the big group photos, we always recommend shooting individual families or smaller combinations. In this case, Lauren and Holly’s families, and their parents had a mini-session just for themselves. Moreover, we love to take father and daughter/mother and daughter portraits, but also grandparents with grandchildren. In general, we love diversity, so we strive to include couples shots but also tender moments within the session. As a result, the photoshoot usually takes at least a couple of hours, but since we’re working in separate groups, there’s always plenty of chances to relax and take a break. For example, in the evening, the manor keeper surprised Cathie with a fantastic birthday cake, and that was another moment to capture some pure emotions.
Taking time to get candid shots
As you can see through all our galleries, we love natural smiles and candid moments. That’s why it is so crucial that you’re choosing a location with lots of room to roam, like in this photo session. As young parents, we know that kids love to play and run around. At the Villa, the little ones had plenty of room, a lovely tree swing, and a swimming pool to have fun and splash in the water. And happy kids make better photos. That’s why we encourage that they enjoy and keep their interest so that we can take advantage of these moments.
